Fernande "Ferney" Kuykendall, née Hastert, was born and raised in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. She speaks Luxembourgish, French, German, and English. She was one of the original 5 flight attendants for Luxair, and also worked for NATO.
She moved to the U.S. in 1969, after marrying her husband, Bill, a California native whom she met at the US Embassy in Luxembourg. His career in international business has taken them all over the world, and they lived in Singapore for several years.
Ferney is a nature photographer fernandehastertkuykendall.com and freelance writer who shares her husband's interest in all things international. She is a member of the LACS (Luxembourg American Cultural Society).
Her award-winning wildlife photography is sometimes featured in Arizona Highways Magazine. She and her husband volunteer at Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center since 2004. Other interests include bio medicine, genealogy, gastronomy, oenology, interior design, and gardening.
As Honorary Consul, some of her duties include promoting educational and cultural exchange between Luxembourg and the US, as well as tourism.
