Slobodan Popovic was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, where he graduated from a technical college in Mechanical Engineering. In 1975, he emigrated to Canada. After receiving his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Music from McGill University, he worked in the music production and recording industry in Montreal.
In 1993, after signing a deal to become part of a multi-media consortium in Phoenix, he relocated his family to Arizona. His facility provided audio post-production services for film and television until 2007, when he moved his office from downtown Phoenix to Scottsdale. Since then his company has been providing forensic audio services and an expert witness testimony to government agencies and private corporate entities in Arizona.
Slobodan has been involved with Phoenix Sister Cities since 1994 and is the chair of the Prague Committee. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Phoenix Film Festival, and is president of Czech Arts USA, a non-profit organization. In 2014, he received his commission as the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic to Arizona and New Mexico.
